Franco-Nevada posted a 57% revenue jump in Q2, driven by precious metals, though margins contracted and earnings fell short of estimates.

Franco-Nevada reported second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of $1.81 per share, a 46% year-over-year increase that missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.95. Despite the miss, total revenues surged 57.3% to $581 million, fueled by stronger precious metal and oil prices and higher asset contributions.

The stock has gained approximately 12.5% since the report, outperforming the S&P 500. This post-earnings strength follows a quarter where gold-equivalent ounces sold rose 18.1% to 132,405, although the company’s adjusted EBITDA margin declined to 91.2% from 99% in the prior-year period.

Precious metals drive revenue growth

Precious metal assets generated $498.7 million in revenue, up from $304 million a year earlier, accounting for 86% of the total. This segment included 70% gold, 14% silver, and 2% platinum group metals. Precious metal gold-equivalent ounces increased 23.4% to 114,111, supported by higher deliveries from Antapaccay, Antamina, South Arturo, and Musselwhite.

Incremental contributions also came from Côté Gold, Casa Berardi, Valentine, and Porcupine. While gross profit rose to $451 million from $271.9 million, the adjusted net income margin dropped to 60.1% from 64.6%, indicating that the sharp revenue increase did not translate into proportional margin expansion.

Strong cash position supports operations

As of June 30, 2026, Franco-Nevada held $1.01 billion in cash and cash equivalents, up from $0.67 billion at the end of 2025. The company generated $482.5 million in operating cash flow during the quarter, a 12% year-over-year increase. Franco-Nevada remained debt-free and reported $4.3 billion in available capital.

The company utilizes free cash flow for portfolio expansion and dividend payouts. According to GN markets/earnings (en-US), the firm maintains a strong liquidity position to support its stream-based business model and strategic acquisitions.

Production outlook favors second half

Franco-Nevada expects total 2026 gold-equivalent sales between 510,000 and 570,000 ounces, tracking toward the upper half of the range. The company sold 268,758 ounces in the first half, with production weighted toward the second half due to anticipated profiles at Candelaria, Tocantinzinho, Côté Gold, Greenstone, and Valentine.

The outlook includes anticipated deliveries from stockpiled ore at Cobre Panamá, with stream deliveries expected to total 23,100 gold ounces and 265,000 silver ounces starting in the third quarter. Estimates for the stock have trended upward since the release, though the Zacks Rank remains at #3 (Hold).
