Acme Solar Hits All-Time High on BESS Delivery

Acme Solar shares surged to a record high as the firm commissioned 300 MWh of battery storage, validating its aggressive expansion roadmap in India.
Key points
- Acme Solar revenue rose 63% to ₹954 crore in Q1 FY27, with BESS contributing ₹226 crore.
- Cumulative BESS capacity reached 3.62 GWh, representing 40% of India's total commissioned storage.
- Management targets over 10 GWh of BESS capacity by FY27, with 70-80% already contracted.
Acme Solar Holdings closed at a record high of ₹455.0 on the NSE on September 21, marking a gain of over 100% in eight months. This performance significantly outpaced the Nifty 50 and Nifty Midcap 100 indices, which have remained largely flat year-to-date due to sustained foreign institutional selling.
The rally is driven by the successful execution of the company's pivot to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). While initial market reactions to strong quarterly results were muted due to valuation concerns, recent operational milestones have convinced investors that the aggressive expansion plan is being delivered on schedule.
Quarterly Financial Performance
For the first quarter of FY27, Acme Solar reported total revenue of ₹954 crore, a 63% year-on-year increase. EBITDA rose 56% to ₹831 crore, achieving a high margin of 87%, while profit after tax jumped 80% to ₹235 crore. Capacity utilisation factors also reached a record 30.9%.
BESS contributed disproportionately to these figures, generating ₹226 crore of the total quarterly revenue from a business line that was negligible eighteen months ago. The company commissioned 2.3 GWh of battery storage in the quarter, bringing its cumulative commissioned capacity to 3.62 GWh, which represents approximately 40% of all commissioned BESS capacity in India.
Forward Guidance And Capacity
Management has upgraded its full-year guidance, projecting more than 10 GWh of BESS capacity by the end of FY27. This target has been pulled forward by nearly three quarters from the original schedule, with 70-80% of the capacity already contracted.
These contracts lock in over ₹1,400 crore in near-term revenue, with realisations expected at ₹8-10 per unit through the DEEP portal and HP-TAM markets. Chairman Manoj Upadhyay stated the company intends to maintain 10-12 GWh of BESS capacity available for the short-term market annually over the next five years.
Recent Operational Milestones
In mid-September, Acme Solar commissioned 66.68 MW of solar capacity alongside 300 MWh of BESS in Rajasthan. The following day, a subsidiary launched Phase-II of its BESS component for the SJVN-contracted FDRE project in Bikaner, adding 52.32 MW and 209.28 MWh to its portfolio.
This subsidiary now holds 105.95 MW and 423.80 MWh of commissioned BESS capacity. The stock’s jump to its record high on September 18 tracked directly to these operational updates, indicating that the market is rewarding actual delivery of infrastructure rather than just strategic announcements.
