ASML Installed Base Services Drive Q2 Growth

ASML's installed base management segment exceeded expectations, fueled by software-led upgrades and a growing EUV fleet.
ASML Holding N.V. reported that its Installed Base Management business generated 2.8 billion euros in sales during the second quarter, marking a 31.8% year-over-year increase. This performance stood approximately 300 million euros above internal management expectations, highlighting a significant shift in revenue drivers toward service and upgrade activities rather than solely new equipment sales.
The surge is attributed to semiconductor manufacturers prioritizing productivity gains on existing lithography equipment. By leveraging software-led upgrades that enhance performance without requiring machine downtime or new capital expenditures, customers are driving demand for ASML's field services, creating a robust growth channel independent of new fleet expansion.
Service Revenue Outpaces New Equipment Sales
The expansion of the installed fleet, particularly in Extreme Ultraviolet lithography, directly correlates with increased service opportunities. As customers deploy more systems, the potential for providing services, upgrades, and field options expands alongside the hardware base. This dynamic ensures that even without immediate new purchases, ASML captures value through maintenance and performance enhancements.
Management notes that demand is no longer solely driven by fleet expansion. Instead, service-driven upgrades are becoming a primary growth engine. This model allows customers to improve output efficiency on current tools, which is critical as they navigate high capital expenditure environments. The result is a more resilient revenue stream tied to the longevity and utilization of existing assets.
EUV Expansion Drives Future Service Potential
Looking ahead, ASML projects the shipment of approximately 65 Low-NA EUV systems in 2026. Concurrently, EUV revenue is expected to rise by roughly 45%, signaling a substantial increase in the high-end installed base. Management anticipates that the combination of upgrade and service revenue will drive more than 30% growth in Installed Base Management sales for the following year.
According to data from GN stocks/chips, this trajectory relies on continued semiconductor investment and sustained customer demand for productivity improvements. The company's valuation, with a forward price-to-sales ratio of 10.89, remains slightly below the industry average of 10.97, reflecting market assessment of its growth sustainability relative to peers.
Valuation Metrics Reflect Stable Growth Expectations
ASML shares have appreciated by 75.7% over the past year, outpacing the industry growth of 58.6%. Earnings estimates for 2026 have increased by 1.17% to $44.11 over the last 60 days, while 2027 estimates have risen by 1.92% to $58.52. These adjustments indicate a stable, albeit moderate, upward revision in analyst expectations for the company's financial performance.
The company currently holds a neutral standing in stock rankings, suggesting that investors are weighing the strong service revenue against broader industry risks. While the installed base strategy provides a buffer against cyclicality in new equipment sales, the long-term sustainability of this growth pace remains contingent on the broader semiconductor sector's continued investment in advanced manufacturing capabilities.
