Astera Labs' 115% Revenue Surge Outpaces Qualcomm's Growth

Astera Labs posted 115% revenue growth and a 25.7% net margin, while Qualcomm's margin dipped to 12.5% due to a one-time tax charge.
Key points
- Astera Labs grew revenue 115.1% to $852.5 million in FY2025, achieving a 25.7% net margin.
- Qualcomm reported $44.3 billion in revenue with a 12.5% net margin, impacted by a $5.7 billion tax charge.
- Astera Labs has zero debt and a 10.2x current ratio, while Qualcomm has 0.8x debt-to-equity.
Astera Labs reported fiscal 2025 revenue of $852.5 million, a 115.1% year-over-year increase, driven by demand for high-speed data center connectivity. The company generated net income of $219.1 million, marking a transition from prior losses to a 25.7% net margin. This performance underscores the rapid scaling of AI infrastructure hardware, positioning Astera as a key supplier for hyperscaler data centers.
Qualcomm, by contrast, recorded fiscal 2025 revenue of $44.3 billion, up 13.7% from the previous year. Its net income stood at $5.5 billion, resulting in a 12.5% net margin. This decline from the 2024 margin of 26% was primarily attributable to a one-time, $5.7 billion non-cash tax charge related to legislative changes, rather than a deterioration in core operating profitability.
Balance sheet strength and cash flow
Astera Labs maintains a debt-free balance sheet with a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.0x and a current ratio of 10.2x. Free cash flow reached $281.8 million, though stock-based compensation accounted for 50.1% of operating cash flow. Qualcomm carries a debt-to-equity ratio of 0.8x and a current ratio of 2.8x, generating $12.8 billion in free cash flow. The differing leverage profiles reflect Astera's asset-light growth phase versus Qualcomm's mature, diversified capital structure.
Customer concentration risks persist
Both firms face significant revenue dependency on a small number of clients. For Astera Labs, one end customer contributed over 70% of 2025 revenue, with the top three clients representing 86%. This concentration is linked to its partnership with Amazon for Scorpio switch products. Qualcomm reports that Apple and Xiaomi each account for more than 10% of consolidated revenues, creating similar exposure to specific hardware manufacturers.
Strategic focus on AI versus mobile
Astera Labs specializes in PCIe and Ethernet technologies for rack-scale AI infrastructure, serving as a critical link in the AI hardware supply chain. Qualcomm continues to dominate the global smartphone ecosystem while expanding into automotive and IoT markets. As noted by The Motley Fool, this creates a choice between pure-play AI agility and diversified mobile stability for investors in 2026.
