Enflame IPO Pop Reflects Limited Float, Not Just Demand

Tencent-backed Enflame saw its share price triple on debut day, a surge driven largely by a tiny tradable float rather than a consensus on intrinsic value.

Enflame, a Chinese AI chipmaker backed by Tencent, saw its share price jump approximately 200% on its first day of trading on Shanghai’s STAR Market. The company raised 6.12 billion yuan in its initial public offering, selling 43.04 million new shares at an issue price of 142.18 yuan. This offering implied a valuation of roughly 61.2 billion yuan. However, the stock quickly traded near 430 yuan, pointing to a market capitalization of about 185 billion yuan, a figure that reflects extreme short-term demand rather than a stable valuation benchmark.

The dramatic price movement is largely attributable to market mechanics rather than fundamental re-rating. Only 17.9 million shares, representing just 4.16% of the enlarged share capital, were freely tradable at the open. As reported by GN stocks/ipo, this limited free float creates a scarcity premium where prices clear based on the urgency of marginal buyers. This dynamic means the quoted market cap on day one is a poor proxy for what the broader market would assign to the company once liquidity normalizes.

Concentration Risk In Customer Base

Enflame’s financial profile reveals significant dependence on a single client. Tencent remains the largest shareholder with a 17.95% stake post-IPO. More critically, revenue tied to Tencent accounted for 83.79% of the company’s 2025 sales. This high level of customer concentration poses a substantial business risk, as the company’s performance is heavily linked to the procurement decisions of one major tech entity rather than a diversified client base.

The company was founded in 2018 and focuses on producing chips and accelerator cards for data center AI workloads, along with related software. The heavy reliance on Tencent suggests that Enflame’s growth trajectory is currently coupled with the internal infrastructure needs of its primary investor and customer, limiting the immediate visibility of its broader market penetration.

Strategic Use Of Raised Capital

The listing aligns with Beijing’s policy push for domestic alternatives to US chip leaders like Nvidia. Enflame plans to allocate most of the 6.12 billion yuan raised to the development of next-generation AI chips and larger system integrations. This capital expenditure is intended to reduce dependence on foreign technology and strengthen the domestic supply chain for high-performance computing hardware.

Future Valuation Uncertainty

Investors should view the IPO-day valuation with caution. As lockup periods expire and more shares become freely tradable, the scarcity premium is expected to fade. The transition from a low-liquidity environment to a normalized trading market will likely see the share price adjust to reflect underlying fundamentals and broader market consensus, rather than the urgent buying pressure of the initial debut.
