Synopsys reports 8.5% EDA revenue growth and 82% recurring revenue mix, outpacing Ceva's licensing gains in fiscal Q3 2026.

Synopsys Inc. reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results showing Electronic Design Automation revenues rising 8.5% year-over-year. The company generated 82% of its total revenue from recurring sources during the period ended July 31. This steady revenue base contrasts with Ceva Inc., which posted a 21% jump in licensing revenue to $18.2 million in the second quarter of 2026.

According to analysis from GN stocks/chips, Synopsys is better positioned for sustained growth due to its embedded AI features and broader design flow coverage. Ceva benefits from edge AI convergence but lacks the recurring revenue stability that characterizes Synopsys' business model. Both companies operate within the Zacks Computer and Technology sector, facing similar macroeconomic headwinds.

Synopsys Drives EDA Revenue Growth

Synopsys extended its AI capabilities across verification and simulation tools, capturing demand from customers building multi-die architectures. Hardware-assisted verification reached record revenues in the quarter, supported by 12 new and 66 repeat customer wins. The company maintains over 30 active customer engagements, indicating strong pipeline momentum for advanced packaging and specialized chip design.

Ceva Licensing Revenue Expands

Ceva Inc. achieved a 21% increase in licensing revenue, reaching $18.2 million in the second quarter of 2026. This growth was driven by the execution of 10 new licensing agreements. The company is leveraging the convergence of edge AI and wireless connectivity to secure these deals, targeting integrated solutions for rising system complexity.

Cash Position and Capital Allocation

Synopsys ended the quarter with $3.61 billion in cash and short-term investments. The firm repurchased $38 million of its own stock and retains $1.7 billion in remaining authorization. Management raised fiscal 2026 operating cash flow guidance to approximately $2.8 billion and free cash flow to about $2 billion, reflecting confidence in cash generation.
