Valens, Onsemi to Launch 3MP A-PHY Automotive Sensor

Valens Semiconductor and onsemi will integrate A-PHY connectivity into 3-megapixel sensors to reduce component counts for mass-market vehicles.
Key points
- Valens and onsemi are developing an integrated 3MP sensor with A-PHY connectivity for mainstream automotive cameras.
- The solution targets the 1-3MP market segment to reduce component counts and simplify camera architectures for OEMs.
- The collaboration strengthens the MIPI A-PHY ecosystem by offering a cost-optimized entry point for high-volume vehicle adoption.
Valens Semiconductor (VLN) has entered a collaboration with onsemi to develop an integrated 3-megapixel sensor solution for high-volume automotive camera applications. The partnership focuses on combining Valens’ MIPI A-PHY connectivity with onsemi’s automotive imaging technology to create a cost-optimized product for mainstream vehicle platforms.
Targeting high-volume camera markets
The joint offering addresses the majority of automotive image sensors, which currently target the 1-3MP resolution range. By entering this segment, the companies aim to provide a streamlined migration path for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers to adopt A-PHY standards. This moves advanced connectivity beyond premium applications into high-volume, cost-sensitive vehicle architectures.
According to Stock Titan, the solution is designed to simplify camera architectures and reduce the total component count. This reduction is critical for lowering the bill of materials in mass-produced vehicles while maintaining the high-speed data transfer rates required for modern driver assistance systems.
Strengthening the A-PHY ecosystem
Valens positions this agreement as a milestone for the MIPI A-PHY ecosystem, which remains the first high-speed sensor connectivity standard in the automotive industry. The collaboration expands supplier choice for automakers, a key requirement for industry-wide adoption. It complements Valens’ existing solutions by bringing the standard to a broader range of use cases.
Streamlining automotive imaging deployment
Onsemi states that customer interest from OEMs indicates a significant business opportunity in simplified design solutions. As automotive imaging systems grow in scale, suppliers are seeking ways to deploy advanced vision systems without compromising performance. The integrated approach aims to make these systems easier to deploy across the vehicle fleet.
