Temporal Values at $12.55 Billion Amid AI Infrastructure Demand

Temporal secured $550 million in Series E funding, valuing the workflow software firm at $12.55 billion as AI agent adoption accelerates.
Temporal has closed a $550 million Series E round, establishing a post-money valuation of $12.55 billion. The company announced the financing on September 14, more than doubling its worth compared to seven months prior. Lightspeed Venture Partners led the transaction, joined by co-leads Wellington Management, Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and Tiger Global. Existing investors, including Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia, also participated in the round.
The capital raise positions Temporal to expand its operations in a market increasingly driven by the reliability needs of AI agents. These systems often execute long-running tasks that involve multiple external calls, creating numerous points of potential failure. Temporal’s Durable Execution technology addresses this by saving application state at each step, allowing work to resume automatically if a server crashes or a service times out. While the core software is open-source and free, the company generates revenue through its managed Temporal Cloud service.
Revenue Growth Tracks AI Adoption
Temporal reports an annualized revenue run rate exceeding $250 million, a year-over-year increase of more than 200%. Net dollar retention has remained above 200% since February, indicating strong expansion within its existing customer base. The platform processed over 1.9 trillion actions in August, a figure up more than 350% from the same period last year. This surge in activity correlates with the growing number of enterprises deploying complex, multi-step AI workflows.
The customer roster includes major technology firms such as OpenAI, Snap, Nvidia, Netflix, and JPMorgan Chase. OpenAI’s usage of Temporal has grown sixty-fold in under a year, highlighting the critical role of durable execution in large-scale AI inference and agent orchestration. Other named users include Anysphere, Lovable, Scale AI, Salesforce, and Shopify, reflecting broad adoption across both consumer and enterprise sectors.
Strategic Investment in Infrastructure
The new funding will be allocated to research and development, developer and enterprise sales, and global operations. Temporal has doubled its workforce to 570 employees over the past year. The company, founded in 2019 by Samar Abbas and Maxim Fateev, has raised approximately $1.2 billion in total funding. Abbas and Fateev previously developed workflow software at Amazon Web Services and created the Cadence engine at Uber.
Competitive Landscape Remains Active
Temporal operates in a crowded field with smaller competitors such as Inngest, Trigger.dev, and Restate. However, the scale of its recent round distinguishes it in a sector where AI companies captured 86% of US venture deal value in the first half of 2026. The firm’s ability to process trillions of actions and retain high-spending customers underscores its position as a key infrastructure provider for the evolving AI ecosystem.
