Block Lifts 2026 Outlook After Q2 Profit Beat

Block Inc. raised its full-year gross profit and EPS targets following a second-quarter earnings report that exceeded market expectations, driving a significant revaluation of the company's operational trajectory.
Block Inc. (XYZ) has increased its 2026 financial outlook, signaling a substantial improvement in operational efficiency and revenue generation. The company lifted its full-year gross profit guidance to $12.51 billion, representing a 21% increase year-over-year, while targeting a 70% growth in adjusted diluted EPS. This upward revision follows a second-quarter report where adjusted EBITDA reached $1.2 billion, surpassing the Street estimate of $1.053 billion, and adjusted operating income margin hit a record 27%.
The shift in guidance reflects a rapid convergence between management’s initial Investor Day projections and actual performance. CFO and COO Amrita Ahuja noted that while early 2026 expectations called for 17% gross profit growth and approximately $2.7 billion in adjusted operating income, the current plan anticipates nearly $3.5 billion in adjusted operating income. This represents a $770 million increase in expected operating income compared to the figures communicated to investors ten months prior.
Operational Leverage From AI Integration
Management attributes part of this improved margin profile to the adoption of agentic AI tools. Data cited by StoneX indicates that code changes per engineer at Block have increased by 150% since the beginning of 2026. In June, these AI systems wrote or reviewed nearly all production code changes, a shift that aligns with the company’s earlier restructuring which included cutting over 4,000 jobs to focus on AI-native workflows.
Ahujah described this restructuring not as a simple cost reduction but as a fundamental redesign of the company's engineering capabilities. This technological integration is viewed as a driver for the record 27% operating margin achieved in the second quarter, supporting the higher full-year margin target of 28%.
Analyst Consensus Revises Valuations Upward
Market coverage of Block has turned decisively positive, with 47 analysts currently rating the stock as a buy or outperform, while zero analysts hold underperform or sell ratings. The mean price target has risen to $98, which is 24% above the current trading price of $79. This consensus shift contrasts with the previous year, when the stock traded near $68 with a mean target of only $70.
StoneX recently upgraded its rating to buy, setting a $105 target, arguing that the market has not yet fully priced in the operating leverage from the company’s AI adoption. According to GN markets/earnings (en-US), this upgrade follows a period where the stock price outpaced analyst targets in the first half of the year, before targets began to catch up following the August earnings release.
