Airbnb CEO Uses AI Brain to Cut Meetings in Half

Brian Chesky built an internal AI tool trained on vast company data to track operations, reducing his meeting load significantly.
Key points
- Chesky built an AI system trained on 18,000 slides and 50,000 documents to monitor Airbnb operations.
- The tool has cut the CEO's meeting time in half by providing direct access to internal data.
- Airbnb shipped over 600 features this year, nearly double the previous year's total, aided by AI.
Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky revealed on Wednesday that he uses a custom AI system to manage the company. He stated that many executives do not fully grasp internal operations, which leads to excessive meetings.
Chesky spoke at the Skift Global Forum about how this tool replaces traditional information gathering. The system acts as a central hub for company data, allowing him to monitor activities without constant human updates.
Internal AI tracks company operations
The system is trained on 18,000 Keynote slides and 50,000 Google documents. It also processes other internal information to create a comprehensive view of the business. Chesky calls this setup an intelligence corpus.
He explained that he built dashboards to understand what is happening inside Airbnb. This setup gives him total information access, according to Business Insider. The goal is to know what is going on without relying on subordinates to brief him.
Meeting time drops by half
Chesky said he has cut his meetings in half since using the tool. He described meetings as a way for CEOs to figure out what is happening. Now, the AI provides that information directly, reducing the need for synchronous discussions.
He admitted that many CEOs do not know what is happening in their companies. Well-intentioned employees often manage the CEO rather than the other way around. The AI system helps bridge this gap in awareness and control.
AI boosts product shipping speed
Airbnb shipped over 600 features this year, nearly twice as many as last year. Chesky attributes this increase in output to the adoption of AI tools. The technology allows the team to develop and release updates faster than before.
Nearly half of customer service requests are now handled by AI. The company plans to launch a new AI agent next year. This agent will have a richer interface than a standard chatbot, according to Chesky.
