Workers who integrate artificial intelligence into their daily routines are more than twice as likely to fear that their jobs will be eliminated within the next five years compared to those who use the technology only occasionally. The research, conducted by Gallup, draws on four waves of nationally representative data collected from employed adults in the United States between 2023 and early 2026. Managers who actively define how AI enhances, rather than replaces, their team’s contribution can reduce burnout and intent to leave.

Occupational Exposure Varies by Role

Workers in occupations heavily affected by generative AI are more likely to feel at risk of displacement. Recent studies have introduced measures of occupational exposure that quantify how many tasks in a specific job a generative model can perform at least as well as a human. The Gallup study links this exposure data to worker sentiment, finding a direct correlation: the higher the share of tasks AI can handle, the more likely a worker is to fear being displaced.
