Control Resonant Shifts Focus to Melee Combat in Manhattan

Remedy Entertainment is bringing back the supernatural thriller Control with a sequel that trades long-range precision for gritty, close-quarters brawling. Set in the fractured streets of Manhattan, the game introduces a new protagonist and a distinct shift in combat mechanics.
Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This release marks the direct sequel to the 2019 original, moving the action out of the contained environment of the Oldest House and into the open, crumbling streets of New York City. As reported by GN technics/gaming, the game shifts the spotlight from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan, who awakens after years of confinement to face a renewed cosmic threat known as the Hiss.
The core gameplay loop has been fundamentally restructured to prioritize melee engagements. Where the first game relied heavily on telekinetic powers and a versatile service weapon for mid-range combat, the sequel centers on the Aberrant, a modular weapon that transforms between a heavy hammer and swift dual blades. This change requires players to manage spacing and timing more aggressively, as the safety net of long-range suppression is largely removed.
New protagonist drives the narrative
Dylan Faden is not merely a cosmetic swap for Jesse. He is a parautilitarian whose abilities are elemental rather than telekinetic. Instead of manipulating objects across a distance, Dylan can weaponize heat to strip enemy armor or generate protective shields around himself. This shift alters the tactical depth of the game, forcing players to rely on proximity and direct impact rather than crowd control from a distance.
The story continues directly from the events of the first game, where Jesse’s attempt to seal the Oldest House failed catastrophically. The breach has spilled into Manhattan, revitalizing the Hiss and the Mold while introducing a new, reality-warping cosmic enemy. The Federal Bureau of Control, desperate and out of options, releases Dylan to contain the incursion. This narrative setup raises the stakes by removing the structured, office-like environment of the previous title in favor of a chaotic, urban warzone.
Editions and pre-order incentives
Players can pre-order either the Standard or Digital Deluxe Edition to secure two exclusive in-game items: the Hiss Corruption Outfit and Pickpocket’s Tool. The latter is an Artifact, but its specific mechanical effect remains undisclosed in the current listings. This lack of transparency is a common trade-off in pre-order bonuses, where cosmetic value is clear but functional utility is left to speculation until launch.
The Digital Deluxe Edition adds further value with a digital artbook, original soundtrack, and additional cosmetic and resource bundles. While these items do not alter gameplay mechanics, they provide deeper insight into the game’s visual design. For players focused solely on the core experience, the Standard Edition offers the same narrative and combat systems without the additional media content.
Platform availability and release details
The game will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store for PC users. No version for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been announced as of the current reporting. The release date is fixed for September 24, 2026, allowing players ample time to prepare for the transition to this new combat style. The absence of a handheld console version may limit accessibility for some, but the PC and console releases cover the primary target audience for this type of action role-playing experience.
