Moshe Karabelnik, a co-lead for the camp, noted that this negotiation process helped students practice self-determination. The experience highlighted that AI is not a magic button but a tool that requires clear human direction. This dynamic encouraged students to articulate their visions clearly and work through disagreements constructively.

Skills extend beyond the screen

The primary goal of the program was to build social and professional skills alongside technical proficiency. Participants learned to communicate with peers, manage project timelines, and build confidence in their abilities. Albert Yee, another co-lead, emphasized that these everyday skills are crucial for college and career readiness.

Success stories from previous cohorts show real-world impact. One participant used a game created during a past session to apply for a professional game development course. He was accepted and is now working with other developers. This outcome illustrates how a short-term camp can serve as a gateway to longer-term career opportunities in the tech industry.

AI tools have limits

While the AI tools lowered the entry barrier for coding, they also introduced new challenges. The platforms required specific prompting techniques to function correctly, meaning students could not simply wish for a game into existence. The dependency on these tools meant that the quality of the output was heavily reliant on the clarity of the student's instructions.
