Nintendo has enabled docked VRR support via firmware 23.0.0, a feature that matches competitor standards but is currently limited to a single demo title due to a developer whitelist requirement. While the update offers a wider 40-60Hz refresh window and 120Hz low framerate compensation, third-party games will not benefit until studios ship individual compatibility patches.

  • Digital Foundry's analysis, cited by GN technics/gaming (en-US), reveals that the new VRR implementation operates on a strict whitelist, currently supporting only the 'Switch 2 Welcome Tour' demo until developers release specific patches. The testing also confirms a 40-60Hz refresh window in 60Hz mode and the inclusion of low framerate compensation for 120Hz output.

  • According to Engadget, enabling this feature requires a specific firmware update for the Switch 2 Dock, and the same patch also introduces a handheld boost toggle, Mii editor improvements, and full system transfer capabilities.

  • Nintendo has resolved a major launch omission by enabling variable refresh rate for the Switch 2 when connected to a television, marking a significant step toward parity with other modern consoles.
