Streaming Audiences Vary Significantly by Region

While gaming is a global hobby, the tools people use to watch it vary drastically by geography. New data reveals distinct regional preferences for Twitch, Kick, and YouTube Gaming.
The global community of live game streaming has expanded into diverse markets across France, South Korea, and Latin America. However, these regions do not consume content uniformly. According to data reported by GN technics/gaming (en-US), specific platforms have carved out dominant niches in different parts of the world, creating a fragmented landscape where local access and cultural habits drive viewer choice.
This geographic split is not just a minor statistical footnote; it dictates where creators build their careers and where advertisers place their budgets. The overlap between these regions is surprisingly low, meaning a streamer who thrives in North America may struggle to find an equivalent audience in Asia or South America without adjusting their platform strategy.
North America favors Twitch heavily
In the United States, Twitch remains the dominant force. Data shows that 28% of Twitch’s total audience comes from US-based devices, a figure significantly higher than its competitors. By comparison, only 15% of Kick’s audience and 14% of YouTube Gaming’s audience reside in the US. This concentration gives Twitch a unique advantage in the North American market, allowing it to maintain deep connections with local creators and viewers who prefer its specific interface and community features.
Asia drives YouTube Gaming growth
Conversely, YouTube Gaming has secured a massive foothold in the Asia-Pacific region. More than 60% of its gaming audience comes from this area, including South Korea, India, and Southeast Asia. This dominance is partly driven by local regulations; restrictions on other platforms in countries like South Korea and India have pushed viewers toward YouTube, which faces fewer barriers. This access to large populations has allowed YouTube to generate viewership numbers that outpace its rivals in these specific markets.
Kick also leverages international audiences, though its focus is broader. Unlike YouTube’s Asia-heavy skew, Kick attracts significant traffic from Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa. More than half of its viewership comes from these regions, where games like Roblox are particularly popular. This global spread means Kick has a more distributed user base, with 21 countries accounting for at least 1% of its audience, compared to fewer countries on Twitch and YouTube.
Demographics remain consistent across platforms
Despite these geographic differences, one demographic factor remains stubbornly consistent: gender. Across Twitch, Kick, and YouTube Gaming, approximately four out of every five users are male. This uniformity suggests that while where people stream is highly localized, who is streaming is not. This lack of gender diversity is a significant trade-off for brands looking to reach female gamers, as all three major platforms serve a predominantly male audience.
