Samsung brings renewed flagship phones to Indian market

Samsung has opened its Certified Re-Newed program in India, offering previous-generation flagships at reduced prices with full warranties.
Samsung has officially launched its Certified Re-Newed program in India, bringing the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Ultra back to the market at lower price points. This initiative allows consumers to purchase pre-owned devices that have been professionally refurbished by the manufacturer, rather than buying from third-party sellers or private individuals. According to reports from GSMArena, these phones are now available through Samsung’s official website and its dedicated retail app.
The core promise of this program is that each device undergoes a rigorous renewal process designed to meet the company's original standards for quality and performance. Instead of accepting used phones in their current state, Samsung inspects, cleans, and tests every unit before it reaches a customer. This approach aims to reduce the uncertainty often associated with buying second-hand electronics, providing a bridge between the cost of a new flagship and the risks of an unverified used device.
Rigorous inspection and data reset process
Before any device is sold, it is reset to remove all previous user data, ensuring privacy for the former owner and a clean start for the new one. The phones are also updated with the latest available software versions to ensure compatibility with current security patches and features. Crucially, Samsung replaces any failing components with genuine parts and installs a certified battery. This means the device should perform similarly to a new one, at least in terms of power management and internal reliability.
However, there is a trade-off to consider. While the internal hardware is refreshed, the exterior may show minor signs of use. Samsung describes these devices as being in "like-new condition," which suggests they are clean and functional but not necessarily flawless. Buyers should expect that the cosmetic perfection of a brand-new box-sealed phone might be slightly compromised, though the functional integrity is backed by the manufacturer's certification.
Pricing structure and warranty coverage
The financial benefit of choosing a renewed device is significant. Prices start at approximately 85% of the original launch cost, offering a tangible discount for those who do not need the absolute latest model or the pristine packaging. For example, the 12GB/256GB variant of the Galaxy S26 is listed at INR 74,799, down from a launch price of INR 87,999. The Galaxy S26 Ultra sees similar proportional savings, with the 256GB model priced at INR 118,999 compared to its initial cost of INR 139,999.
To further mitigate risk, Samsung includes a one-year warranty with every Certified Re-Newed device. This is a critical differentiator from many informal resale markets, where warranties are often limited or non-existent. The warranty covers hardware failures and performance issues, giving buyers the same recourse they would have if they had purchased the phone directly from the manufacturer at full price. This official backing transforms a second-hand purchase into a more secure, consumer-friendly transaction.
Availability through official digital channels
These devices are not available in general retail stores or on third-party marketplaces at this stage. Instead, they are exclusively sold through Samsung’s official online presence, including the corporate website and the Samsung Shop app. This controlled distribution ensures that the refurbishment process remains consistent and that the warranty registration is properly linked to the manufacturer's system. It also simplifies the return and repair process, as customers deal directly with the brand rather than negotiating with independent sellers.
For consumers in India, this program represents a structured entry point into the premium smartphone market. It caters to those who value the hardware specifications of the S26 series but wish to save money by foregoing the initial premium. The combination of official certification, data security, and warranty support makes this a viable alternative to buying new, provided buyers are comfortable with the minor cosmetic imperfections that come with a refurbished product.
