The Norwegian company describes this version as its most ambitious release to date, integrating advanced machine learning algorithms into tools that previously relied on traditional signal processing. This shift aims to provide more nuanced control over noise reduction, hum removal, and dialogue extraction for audio professionals.

According to reporting from GN technics/software (en-US), the update overhauls the user interface and expands support for immersive audio formats. While the new features promise smoother repairs and more natural edits, the release comes with specific limitations regarding channel counts and platform compatibility that users must consider before upgrading.

Machine Learning Enhances Core Tools

The most notable change in Acoustica 8 is the application of machine learning to the DeNoise and DeHum modules. Instead of relying solely on frequency-based filtering, these tools now use AI to distinguish between desired audio and unwanted artifacts. This approach is designed to handle complex noise profiles more effectively than previous iterations.

Additionally, the Extract:Dialogue 2 tool introduces individual sliders for adjusting voice, noise, and reverb elements. This granular control allows editors to isolate speech more cleanly from surrounding audio. A new feature called AudioFill also uses intelligent analysis to close gaps in audio content, promising smoother transitions for larger regions of missing data.

Immersive Audio Support Arrives

For the first time, Acoustica supports immersive audio formats, including up to 9.1.6 channels and Dolby Atmos. This expansion allows editors to work with spatial audio directly within the application, a significant addition for those working in film, television, or high-end music production.

However, this capability is not available in all versions of the software. The trade-off is clear: users who require immersive audio support must purchase the higher-tier editions. The Standard edition remains limited to stereo only, which may be sufficient for podcasters or radio producers but excludes those working in spatial audio environments.

Interface Updates and Pricing Tiers

The entire user interface has been redesigned, featuring a new launch page, a customisable toolbar, and a dockable workspace. These changes aim to streamline the workflow for both standalone use and integration as AU, VST3, or AAX plugins within a digital audio workstation. The spectral editor also gains new tools, including a 'select similar' function and adjustable feathering for smoother edits.

Acoustica 8 is available in three pricing tiers, starting at $149 for the Standard edition and rising to $499 for the Ultimate edition. Each tier offers different levels of flexibility and feature access. While the company claims this pricing is competitive within the industry, the cost difference between tiers reflects the specific capabilities included, particularly regarding immersive audio support and advanced restoration tools.
