Jacklin golfün modern kaosundan bahsediyor

Tony Jacklin, ekipman ve LIV Golf'te yapılan değişikliklere dikkat çekerek, modern profesyonel golfün 1953'te oynadığı oyunla pek ilgisi olmadığını söyledi.

The essentials

Tony Jacklin has always spoken openly about his golfing views. Now 84, the two-time major champion sees the sport he once excelled in becoming almost unrecognizable. In a conversation with Golf Monthly, Jacklin expressed strong criticism about how the game has changed from what it was in 1953.

A shifting landscape

Jacklin, who captured the 1969 Open Championship and the 1970 US Open, is a firm traditionalist. He is not holding back about the changes in equipment. He claims the USGA and The R&A have allowed developments that now make the sport feel like a different game.

He argues the current golf is barely connected to the version he played. His remarks are clear: 'Do not even get me started on what the USGA and The R&A have allowed to happen with equipment and the ball.'

Jacklin isn’t just upset about new gear. He said he plans to step back and watch from a distance. He will watch, he said, but hopes everyone is content with the path the game is on.

LIV Golf under scrutiny

Jacklin also criticizes LIV Golf sharply. He views it as a 'non-starter' and believes those behind it thought they could 'manufacture or buy history'—which, in his view, is impossible.

He finds the music, shotgun starts, and unclear winners all seem 'contrived.' He doesn’t see who could want that kind of performance.

But Jacklin might not have to endure this spectacle for long. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is ending its backing for LIV Golf after 2026. This move is already affecting the financial flow in professional golf.

A potential solution ahead

Jacklin isn’t the only one watching the 2030 golf ball rollback closely. It might restore some equilibrium to the game he loved so much in the past.

“Do not even get me started on what the USGA and The R&A have allowed to happen with equipment and the ball.”
Next snap

Golf’s 2030 ball rollback could bring clarity to the debate Jacklin is part of.
