Government figures released on Tuesday indicate that more than 7,700 cases have been recorded. According to these reports, over 3,700 people have died from the epidemic.
Screening at Key Travel Routes
The International Organization for Migration is increasing its efforts at displacement sites. Teams are also active along major travel routes, including the Congo River.
At the Bende-Bende port in Kinshasa, workers check the temperature of every passenger. They also collect health information through a specific traveler health form.
According to Africanews, these teams conduct an average of around 1,000 health screenings daily. This high volume aims to catch potential cases early.
Protocol for Suspected Cases
Health officials define a suspected case based on specific symptoms. If a passenger meets this definition, they are referred immediately.
A sampling unit then tests the individual to determine the cause. This helps distinguish Ebola from other diseases like cholera.
Regional Cooperation Against Transmission
The IOM states it is working closely with neighboring governments. This collaboration aims to reduce the risk of cross-border transmission.
Partners include Uganda, South Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, and the Central African Republic. These nations are strengthening their own preparedness measures.
