Wave of Yemeni Refugees Reaches Djibouti Amid Escalating Conflict
As Houthi forces capture Mocha and dominate the Bab al-Mandeb strait, Djibouti has received 1,400 refugees in a single day, including hundreds rescued at sea near Obock. The IOM reports that more than 46,000 people have been displaced in Yemen, urging the international community to provide unimpeded humanitarian access to those fleeing repeated waves of conflict.
According to Al Jazeera English, the IOM warns that over 46,000 Yemenis have been displaced since last week’s escalation, with IOM Director General Amy Pope pleading for safe access as families flee for the second or third time. The report also notes that the Houthis have recently seized the port city of Mocha and surrounding islands, further tightening their control over the strait.
