Domestic gold prices in Vietnam have halted their recent drop, with SJC bars trading at 143.0 to 146.0 million VND per ounce.

Vietnamese gold prices stabilized on September 12, ending a week of declines. The closing price for SJC gold bars stood at 143.0 million VND for buying and 146.0 million VND for selling per ounce. This represents a reversal from the previous day, when prices fell by 600,000 VND.

The one-week loss for SJC bars totals 3.1 million VND per ounce. Buyers who entered at the end of last week face unrealized losses exceeding 6 million VND per ounce. The spread between buy and sell prices remains approximately 3 million VND per ounce.

Global spot prices recover weekly losses

Global gold prices closed the week at $4,349.70 per ounce on the Kitco exchange. This marks a 0.74% increase of $32.10 from the previous session. The price had earlier dipped to a weekly low of $4,292.11 before recovering.

The weekly performance remains negative, with a total decline of approximately 1.5%. Market participants cited conflicting US job market data and inflation figures as drivers of volatility. Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East also influenced trading sentiment during the week.

Fed rate expectations drive volatility

US inflation data for August showed no signs of cooling. This strengthens expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate hike at next week's meeting. The market currently prices in a 70% probability of this action.

Independent trader Tai Wong notes that price volatility is limited. He argues the market has already factored in the likely rate decision. Current movements suggest gold is forming a short-term bottom after the recent drop.

Domestic premium persists over world price

The global price of $4,349.70 per ounce converts to approximately 137 million VND per tael. Domestic prices remain about 9 million VND per tael higher than this global benchmark. This premium reflects structural differences in the Vietnamese market.

Other brands show similar pricing structures. Bao Tin Minh Chau lists pure gold rings at 142.6 to 146.6 million VND per ounce. Doji closed at 143.0 to 147.0 million VND per ounce. PNJ maintains a range of 143.0 to 146.0 million VND per ounce. GN auto markets/commodities: gold prices data confirms these trends across major dealers.
