Anchorage Digital has expanded its institutional custody suite to include seven assets on the Etherlink network, including a token representing physical uranium.

Anchorage Digital has added institutional custody support for seven assets on the Etherlink network. This includes xU3O8, a token representing physical uranium. The assets are held in segregated accounts at Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A.

Institutional clients can use existing policy controls for these new holdings. No separate custody arrangement is required for the Tezos layer 2 network. The supported assets include wrapped XTZ, stXTZ, USDT, USDC, and wrapped Ether.

Tokenized uranium enters regulated custody

xU3O8 provides exposure to physical uranium held in custody. The token operates through Uranium.io on the Etherlink platform. Traditional uranium trading involves long settlement periods and high minimum transaction sizes.

Tokenization allows for onchain transfer and settlement. Anchorage states that settlement time is measured in minutes rather than weeks. This structure aligns with the operational setup used for other digital assets.

Institutional demand drives infrastructure expansion

Nathan McCauley, CEO of Anchorage Digital, noted that institutions lack suitable places to hold tokenized real-world assets. The new integration addresses this gap within a federally chartered bank. It allows clients to apply existing risk frameworks to these assets.

Unfamiliar collateral often faces increased examination from auditors and lenders. Anchorage positions its infrastructure to meet these regulatory and operational requirements. The company highlights the need for secure custody solutions for digital commodities.

Uranium access via blockchain networks

Uranium.io uses smart contracts to handle transactions and custody transfers. Physical uranium is procured by Curzon Uranium and stored by Cameco. The model allows for fractional exposure to the commodity.

Arthur Breitman, co-founder of Tezos, presented uranium as the first step in bringing commodities to blockchain infrastructure. Demand for uranium is linked to rising electricity requirements from data centers. Nuclear energy remains a key component of power generation.
