The total cryptocurrency market capitalization briefly exceeded $3 trillion on Tuesday. Bitcoin traded near $86,000, marking a 4.5% gain over the previous 24 hours. This price action lifted the broader sector value by approximately 4.3% from the prior day.
Major altcoins also posted significant gains during this rally. Ether rose 2.3% to $2,745, while XRP increased 5.7% to $1.53. Solana advanced 3.6% to $117, and Dogecoin surged 11%, outperforming many large-cap peers.
Derivatives leverage reaches record highs
Open interest in perpetual futures climbed to nearly $160 billion. This represents the highest level recorded since late October 2025. According to Cointelegraph, such leverage increases the potential for amplified price volatility in both directions.
Rising prices triggered substantial liquidations of bearish positions on Monday. Traders lost more than $920 million as markets moved sharply upward. This event underscores the growing speculative activity within the current trading environment.
Institutional inflows support recent price gains
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted nearly $1 billion on Monday. This constitutes the largest single-day inflow since October 2025. These institutional purchases provided additional buying pressure during the recent market expansion.
Small cap tokens show extreme volatility
Akedo’s AKE token gained about 170% over the past seven days. Its market capitalization reached approximately $1.2 billion before a sharp correction. The asset dropped more than 60% from its all-time high of $0.1467.
Traders exchanged $108.9 million worth of AKE in the last 24 hours. This high volume reflects intense speculative interest in lower-ranked cryptocurrencies. Such movements highlight the divergent performance across different market segments.
