LMAX Group is the first institutional client to join Standard Chartered’s new digital asset custody platform, marking a significant step in the integration of crypto assets into traditional banking infrastructure.

LMAX Group has become the first client to join Standard Chartered’s digital asset custody platform. This appointment follows the bank’s June 2026 authorization under the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation. The partnership extends a relationship that began with the industry’s first live digital asset prime brokerage trades in July 2026. Standard Chartered will act as custodian through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch and Standard Chartered Luxembourg. This dual-jurisdiction setup provides access to regulated custody services in two major financial hubs.

Dual Jurisdiction Custody Structure

The arrangement utilizes two distinct regulatory frameworks. The Dubai International Financial Centre branch operates under DFSA regulation. Standard Chartered Luxembourg operates under MiCA authorization. This structure allows LMAX to serve clients across the Middle East and Europe. It addresses the need for consistent compliance across different markets. The setup supports LMAX’s expanding institutional client base in these regions.

Off-Exchange Liquidity Solutions

The firms are developing off-exchange custody solutions. These solutions aim to combine bank-grade security with institutional liquidity. The goal is to allow market participants to trade without moving assets to unregulated exchanges. This approach enhances operational efficiency. It also improves risk management for institutional investors. The initiative targets the next phase of institutional adoption in digital assets.

Institutional Infrastructure Expansion

Standard Chartered states that clients need infrastructure that operates across regulatory regimes. The bank combines custody with trading and prime brokerage capabilities. This creates a connected digital asset ecosystem. LMAX Group views this as a natural next step in its business growth. The partnership provides robust infrastructure for the digital asset sector. It supports the evolving needs of clients requiring secure asset management.
