Unicoin filed a lawsuit in New York seeking to cancel the UNI trademark registration. The suit follows three demand letters from Uniswap.

TransparentBusiness Inc. filed a lawsuit against Universal Navigation Inc. in the Southern District of New York. The action seeks declarations that the UNICOIN mark does not infringe on Uniswap's rights. The company also requests the cancellation of the US trademark registration for UNI. This legal move follows a series of disputes between the two entities.

The complaint details three demand letters sent by Uniswap's counsel. These letters were dated June 3, July 17, and August 14. Unicoin states the letters accused it of trademark infringement and cybersquatting. The suit was filed ahead of the September 28 public launch of the UNCN token.

Demand letters triggered legal action

Uniswap's representatives claimed Unicoin engaged in unfair competition. They demanded the immediate cessation of UNICOIN usage. The letters also required the transfer of unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains. Unicoin asserts these domains do not violate federal anti-cybersquatting laws.

The initial correspondence included requests for financial disclosures. Uniswap sought an accounting of revenue and profits. They also demanded reimbursement for their legal fees. Cointelegraph has reached out to Uniswap for a comment on the matter.

Uniswap leads exchange volume metrics

DeFiLlama data ranks Uniswap first among decentralized exchanges. The protocol recorded over $3.9 billion in 24-hour volume. This metric places it ahead of competitors in the sector. The ranking reflects current market activity levels.

Token launch scheduled for late September

Unicoin lists a public launch date of September 28. This date corresponds to the release of the UNCN token. The lawsuit was filed weeks before this scheduled event. The timing suggests a strategic legal posture.
