August Inflation and Central Bank Decisions Define Market Week

India's August CPI data releases this week against a backdrop of global central bank meetings.
India's food inflation rose to 5.5% in July from 5.2% in June. This increase marks a broadening of price pressure across multiple consumer items. The August Consumer Price Index data is scheduled for release on September 14. Wholesale Price Index figures will be published on the same day.
Weak monsoon rainfall and rising fuel costs are key drivers of this trend. Brent crude oil prices remain above $100 per barrel. These factors create uncertainty regarding the spread of inflation to core sectors. Market participants await the data to assess the persistence of price hikes.
Global Central Banks Face Divergent Pathways
The US Federal Reserve, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan announce decisions next week. The Fed has cut rates by 75 basis points to 3.75% since January 2025. The UK Bank of England lowered rates by 100 basis points to 3.75%. The Bank of Japan raised its rate by 50 basis points to 1%.
The Fed meets on September 15 and 16. Inflation in the US stands at 3.4% in August, above the target. Some economists predict a rate increase before the end of 2026. The Bank of England is expected to hold its rate steady. The Bank of Japan faces different growth pressures.
Export Growth Driven by Petroleum Shifts
India's August trade data releases this week. Merchandise exports reached a record $44.24 billion in July. This figure represents a 19.6% year-on-year increase. Petroleum product exports rose 67.6% to $6.92 billion in July.
Excluding petroleum, export growth was 13.6% in July. Global fuel trade flows have shifted due to supply disruptions. Indian refiners are supplying more diesel to overseas markets. Higher import bills for oil may offset some export gains.
National Stock Exchange Opens IPO
The National Stock Exchange Ltd opens for subscription this week. This listing is a significant event in the Indian primary market. Other companies will also launch issues during the same period. Investor attention is divided between these new listings and economic data releases.
The Reserve Bank of India conducts open-market bond sales. This action addresses a large liquidity surplus in the banking system. These monetary operations occur alongside the policy decisions of major global central banks. The week combines domestic data with international monetary shifts.
