The DAX is positioned at 25,586 points, flat from previous close. Traders await the European Central Bank decision.

The DAX opened at 25,586 points, up 10 from the prior session. The index closed at 25,576 points yesterday after a 1.7 percent drop. Market sentiment remains cautious ahead of monetary policy news.

Brent crude oil prices held above 100 dollars per barrel. This level marks the first time since mid-July that prices exceeded this threshold. Investors fear supply disruptions will sustain high energy costs.

ECB to Raise Rates to 2.5

The European Central Bank announces its decision at 14:15. Eurozone inflation reached 3.3 percent recently. Markets expect a 25 basis point increase to the benchmark rate.

A 25 basis point hike is fully priced into financial instruments. Any deviation would constitute a major market surprise. Analysts debate if this marks the end of the tightening cycle.

Oil Prices Drive Inflation Fears

Brent crude traded at 101.03 dollars per barrel today. This represents a 0.2 percent decline but stays above 100 dollars. WTI crude rose 0.2 percent to 96.22 dollars.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East support high oil prices. Conflicts involving Saudi Arabia and Yemeni rebels raise supply concerns. Higher energy costs feed directly into consumer price inflation.

Global Equities Face Recent Losses

US markets closed lower on Wednesday. The Dow Jones index fell 0.8 percent to 52,381 points. The S&P 500 dropped 0.5 percent to 7,636 points.

Asian markets also recorded declines. The Nikkei 225 index lost 0.8 percent to 64,597 points. The Shanghai Composite index fell 0.1 percent to 3,946 points.
