Amarillo Gas Prices Jump 13.8 Cents to $3.47 per Gallon

Gasoline costs in the Amarillo region rose sharply this week, driven by global supply disruptions. The average price now sits at $3.47 per gallon, marking a significant increase from last week's levels.
Gasoline prices in the Amarillo area increased by 13.8 cents per gallon over the past seven days. The average cost reached $3.47 per gallon on Monday. This figure is 19.5 cents higher than the average recorded one month ago. Compared to the same period last year, prices are up 95.1 cents per gallon. These figures come from the latest report by GN auto markets/energy: gasoline prices.
Local price variations remain significant. The cheapest station in Amarillo charged $3.65 per gallon on Sunday. The most expensive station in the area charged $4.00 per gallon. This creates a spread of 86 cents between the lowest and highest local prices. Across the entire state of Texas, the range is wider. The lowest price in Texas was $3.19 per gallon on Sunday. The highest price in the state reached $5.79 per gallon.
National Averages Rise Sharply
The national average price for gasoline also climbed this week. It rose 17.2 cents per gallon in the last seven days. The new national average stands at $4.25 per gallon. This is 19.0 cents higher than the average from one month ago. Year-over-year, the national average is up $1.14 per gallon. The increase reflects broader supply chain pressures affecting the entire country.
Geopolitical Tensions Drive Cost Increases
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, cited escalating geopolitical tensions as the primary driver. Friction between the United States and Iran has heightened market anxiety. New hostilities in the Red Sea have disrupted shipping routes. The shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline has reduced available supply. These factors combined to push prices sharply higher across all states.
Additional refinery attacks in Russia have further strained global supplies. Two Russian refineries were knocked offline over the weekend. This reduction in capacity offsets any seasonal price relief. Diesel prices may rise even faster due to these disruptions. While many regions switch to cheaper winter-blend gasoline this week, volatility is expected to persist. Motorists should anticipate continued price instability in the near term.
Regional Variations in Neighboring Areas
Prices in areas surrounding Amarillo also increased significantly. In Lubbock, the average price is $3.82 per gallon. This is a 15.2 cent increase from last week’s $3.67. Midland Odessa sees an average of $3.88 per gallon. This is up 10.3 cents from the previous week’s $3.78. Oklahoma reports an average of $3.84 per gallon. That figure is 18.8 cents higher than last week’s $3.65.
