Drivers paying this rate spend 74 dollars to fill a 15 gallon tank. This amount is 23 dollars higher than the peak cost seen in August 2025. The current price is also 72 cents above the average recorded in August of last year.
Regional Price Variations Remain Modest
Ann Arbor recorded the highest average price at 4.97 dollars. Lansing and Jackson followed closely with averages of 4.95 dollars each. Marquette offered the lowest rate in the state at 4.79 dollars per gallon.
Traverse City and Flint also posted relatively lower averages of 4.85 and 4.90 dollars. These regional differences show a narrow spread across the entire state. Most consumers face similar costs regardless of their specific location.
Supply Data Shows Rising Demand
Energy Information Administration data shows gasoline demand increased to 8.79 million barrels daily. This rise comes from a previous level of 8.55 million barrels. Total domestic supply also climbed to 207.7 million barrels during the same period.
Gasoline production rose from 9.3 million to 9.6 million barrels per day. Despite these increases in supply and production, retail prices continue to climb. The market remains volatile due to broader global oil market pressures.

AAA recommends combining errands to reduce the total miles driven. Paying cash at the pump may save money on some occasions. Removing excess weight from vehicles also improves fuel efficiency significantly.
