Key points

  • South Carolina's average gas price hit 4.03 dollars per gallon, up 15.2 cents in one week.

The average gasoline price in South Carolina reached 4.03 dollars per gallon this week. This increase of 15.2 cents marks the first time the state average has broken the four-dollar threshold.

Data from GasBuddy shows this rise pushes prices 39.4 cents above last month's levels. The current rate is also 1.29 dollars higher than the average recorded one year ago.

Statewide Data Shows Broad Price Increases

GasBuddy analyzed prices from 3,028 stations across the state to calculate this figure. Patrick De Haan noted that 45 states saw increases of more than 3 cents per gallon.

The cheapest station in South Carolina charged 3.59 dollars per gallon on Sunday. The most expensive station recorded a price of 4.94 dollars, creating a 1.35 dollar spread.

National Averages Rise Alongside State Prices

The national average price climbed 18.5 cents per gallon over the same period. This brings the nationwide average to 4.44 dollars per gallon as of Monday.

This national figure is 34.4 cents higher than last month's average. It stands 1.30 dollars above the price level recorded exactly one year ago.

Geopolitical Factors Drive Uncertain Fuel Outlook

Experts link further price changes to ongoing international geopolitical developments. New Houthi attacks and escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain key variables.

De Haan stated that the outlook for fuel costs remains deeply uncertain. The Lowcountry area currently sees prices around 4.07 dollars, slightly above the state mean.
