Global Markets Mixed as Oil Slides and Gold Hits New Highs

Brent crude fell to $104.61 while gold reached $4,408.90. Equity markets showed mixed results with significant regional divergence.

Brent crude closed at $104.61 per barrel, down $3.02 from the previous session. WTI crude followed suit at $100.05, a decline of $2.43. Gold surged to $4,408.90 per ounce, gaining $1.60. These figures represent the dominant price movements in commodity trading for the day.

Asian Markets Face Significant Pressure

The Nikkei 225 index suffered a sharp drop of 1,259.61 points. This decline brought the index down to 64,011.34. The Shanghai Composite also fell, losing 46.29 points to settle at 3,888.11. In contrast, the BIST 100 in Turkey gained 73.40 points to hit 14,467.25.

European equities showed modest positive movement. The DAX index increased by 207.41 points to 25,568.56. The FTSE 100 rose 41.52 points, closing at 10,650.44. The CAC 40 added 63.01 points, reaching a level of 8,179.77.

Currency Exchange Rates Remain Stable

The US dollar held steady against the euro at 1.1599. The pound sterling remained unchanged against the dollar at 1.3524. The Japanese yen weakened slightly, trading at 153.61 against the US dollar. The Russian ruble strengthened marginally to 84.2558 per dollar.

The Turkish lira traded at 48.5213 against the US dollar. The Chinese yuan stayed flat at 6.7080. These currency movements indicate low volatility in major forex pairs during the reporting period.

Year-To-Date Performance Shows Divergence

Oil prices have risen significantly since the start of the year. Brent crude is up $43.76 from its January level. WTI crude has gained $42.63 over the same period. Gold has seen the largest year-to-date increase, adding $67.80 to its price.

US stock indices have accumulated substantial gains year-to-date. The Dow Jones is up 4,510.00 points. The S&P 500 has added 811.48 points. The Nasdaq has risen 3,091.05 points since the beginning of 2026. These gains contrast with mixed results in other global markets.

The Nikkei index has seen a massive 13,671.86 point increase year-to-date. The DAX has gained 1,078.15 points. The FTSE 100 is up 719.06 points. The RTS index has fallen 261.29 points over the year.
