US stock futures trade flat early Friday following a sharp rebound in major indices after the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in three years.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose by 41 points, or 0.08%, in early Friday trade. S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures remained unchanged. This pause follows a strong Thursday session where the Dow closed up 316 points, or 0.6%. The S&P 500 gained 1.1% while the Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.7%.

The market recovered from Wednesday's sharp decline triggered by the Federal Reserve's decision to raise rates by a quarter percentage point. The Fed indicated at least one more rate increase is expected this year. Investors are currently weighing this monetary tightening against the ongoing momentum in the artificial intelligence sector.

Asian markets open higher

Regional equities in Asia posted gains to start the week. Japan's Nikkei 225 added 1.90% while the Topix index rose 0.17%. South Korea's Kospi advanced 2.67% and the small-cap Kosdaq gained 0.45%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index traded flat. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.67% and mainland China's CSI 300 added 1.05%.

AI trade drives investor sentiment

Thursday's rally was led by technology stocks, suggesting a shift in investor focus. Many market participants are looking past the prospect of higher-for-longer interest rates. Attention is returning to corporate profits supported by artificial intelligence investment. Brian Levitt, chief global market strategist at Invesco, noted that the current cycle may end only if AI investment returns disappoint.

Fed officials speak Friday

The week concludes with additional commentary from Federal Reserve officials. Governor Michelle Bowman and Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid are scheduled to speak. Investors seek clarity on the rationale behind Wednesday's unanimous vote to hike rates. The major averages are on pace for a mixed week. The Dow is down 1.5% and the S&P 500 is down 0.3% week-to-date. The Nasdaq Composite is up 0.3% for the week.
