Reintjes Wins Germany's Best European Youth Finish in 15 Years

Justus Reintjes just finished his first season in the ratiopharm Ulm development program. The 16-year-old from Tegernheim served as captain of the youth team and guided them to a German runner-up title in the JBBL.

His peak moment arrived in August in Oradea, Romania. There, the German squad secured fifth place at the U18 European Championship. It is the best finish for the country in 15 years.

Oradea marks a historic high

The tournament featured seven games in just nine days. Reintjes played a key role as a point guard. He averaged around 22 minutes on the court per game. This made him one of the most active players on the roster.

The team battled through two early losses. They then defeated Israel 78:75 in a dramatic quarter-final. The victory kept their hopes alive in a tough bracket.

Balancing school and pro training

Back in Ulm, Reintjes juggles a heavy schedule. He attends school until 4 PM. Then he shifts to strength training and team practice. His days are long but purposeful.

He plays in the fourth and fifth professional divisions. This exposure helps him build physical toughness. The goal is to be ready for the Bundesliga by age 18 or 19.

Life lessons away from home

Living independently has taught Reintjes essential life skills. He handles his own laundry, cooking, and grocery shopping. He notes that these tasks help him grow beyond the court.

His sister now lives in Ulm to help with social media. This provides a familiar support system. Reintjes also focuses on nutrition, limiting sugar to reduce inflammation. He still allows himself occasional family ice cream treats.
