Langley Riders Sweep Top Spots at Thunderbird Finale

Thunderbird Show Park in Langley hosted the BCHJA fall finale this past weekend. Local riders dominated the field, with three of the top four winners hailing from Langley or Pitt Meadows.

The air buzzed with tension as horses thundered down the course. Braden James guided his gelding, Hermes des Carmilles, through the 1.45m jumping round. They cleared the white fences with a time of 42.9 seconds. It was a flawless performance.

A Carefully Cultivated Partnership

James found Hermes through a friend in France. They have spent two years refining their bond at the facility. The pair entered international competition for the first time in May. Hermes finished second in two ranking classes.

The horse has a fidgety energy, which James describes as a bit of ADD. Yet, he remains easy to work with. Groom Paige Mathison helps manage the daily routine, including baths the horse dislikes. The team behind them is a crucial part of the success.

King Swaps Horses for Victory

Kyle King finished second on Friday with Ninja BF. He clocked a time of 43.54 seconds. On Saturday, he switched mounts to Odysseus. The 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding had been absent from start lists during the winter.

King piloted Odysseus to win the $62,500 grand prix. His time was 38.67 seconds. James chased closely behind on Hermes, stopping at 38.96 seconds. Odysseus feels better than ever, King noted. The horse is owned by Patricia Vasey.

Young Talent Pushes the Pace

Kassidy Keith from Aldergrove took third place on Saturday. Her time was 40 seconds. Tiffany Foster from Langley finished fourth on Steadfast. She recorded a time of 40.89 seconds.

King praised the younger riders for their speed and hunger. They are fast and determined. Keith showed solid experience in her run. The grand prix marked the end of the international season at Thunderbird. The local talent has clearly arrived.
