India Wins Five Asian Games Medals as Chanu Claims Silver

India secured five medals on Day 4 of the Asian Games 2026. The haul includes a silver in weightlifting and three bronzes across shooting, soft tennis, and badminton.

The day ended with a mix of historic firsts and familiar strength. Mirabai Chanu added a silver to her career, while other athletes broke barriers in new disciplines.

Chanu completes major event medal set

Mirabai Chanu lifted her way to silver in the women’s 49kg category. This result completes her medal collection across major multi-sport events.

She has previously won multiple golds at the Commonwealth Games and a silver at the Olympics. The Asian Games podium was the missing piece.

Shooting and tennis deliver historic bronzes

India claimed bronze in both men’s and women’s skeet team events. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill led the men’s team to the podium.

Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan finished third for the women. In soft tennis, Jay Meena reached the semi-finals to win a historic bronze.

Meena becomes the first Indian medallist in this sport at the Asian Games. His campaign ended there, but the achievement marks a new era for the discipline.

Badminton and hockey close out the day

The men’s badminton team settled for bronze after a 3-1 loss to China in the semi-finals. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty provided India’s only win in the tie.

On the hockey field, Deepika Sehrawat scored nine goals in a 20-1 victory over Thailand. This is the most by an Indian woman in a single Asian Games match.
