Philip Morris International Raises 2026 EPS Guidance on ZYN Expansion

Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM) has updated its financial outlook, attributing the increase in 2026 earnings projections to currency impacts and accelerating demand for its smoke-free products.
Philip Morris International has raised its 2026 reported diluted earnings per share guidance to a range of US$7.28 to US$7.43. The company attributes this upward revision primarily to favorable currency effects. Management also highlighted tangible progress in its smoke-free portfolio, specifically noting the scaling of IQOS heat-not-burn devices and the ZYN nicotine pouch line as key drivers of this financial adjustment.
According to data provided by GN markets/earnings (en-US), the company’s current earnings stand at US$10.8 billion. Analyst consensus projects that these figures will grow to US$15.5 billion by 2029, alongside revenue reaching US$49.8 billion. This trajectory implies an annual revenue growth rate of 5.4% and a total earnings increase of approximately US$4.7 billion over the forecast period.
Colorado Facility Supports ZYN Scaling
A central pillar of the forward strategy involves the expansion of the ZYN nicotine pouch business. The company has secured fresh FDA marketing authorizations and is leveraging a new production facility in Colorado to support this growth. The new site is designed to handle higher output volumes and enable a broader product portfolio, including larger can sizes and new strength options that were previously constrained by inventory issues.
This infrastructure investment signals a deeper commitment to higher-margin revenue streams. By addressing earlier supply chain limitations, Philip Morris International aims to ensure that ZYN can scale cleanly with appropriate pricing and a wider selection of FDA-cleared SKUs. This capacity is critical for offsetting the structural decline in traditional combustible cigarettes.
Forex Drives Near-Term Earnings
While the long-term thesis relies on smoke-free adoption, the immediate guidance update is heavily influenced by foreign exchange movements. The raised EPS target reflects the positive impact of currency translation on reported earnings. This indicates that forex remains a significant swing factor for the company's near-term financial performance, independent of pure volume growth in its product lines.
Regulatory Risks Remain Primary Concern
The primary risk to this investment narrative remains regulatory pushback against smoke-free products. Cautious market participants note that stricter rules on IQOS and ZYN could pose a greater threat than current consensus models suggest. If growth in these categories slows or faces legal hurdles before they fully compensate for cigarette declines, the margin mix shift could be disrupted.
Investors must weigh the execution of the ZYN scaling strategy against these regulatory uncertainties. The success of the Colorado facility and the broader smoke-free mix will determine whether Philip Morris International can sustain its transition away from combustibles while maintaining the projected earnings trajectory through 2029.
