Goodnight Midstream has commenced construction on the Estacado Pipeline, adding 550,000 barrels per day of capacity to its Delaware Basin network.

Goodnight Midstream has initiated construction on the Estacado Pipeline, a high-pressure infrastructure project designed to address rising produced water volumes in the northern Delaware Basin. Located in Eddy and Lea counties, New Mexico, the 90-mile line is backed by long-term volume commitments from major regional producers. The new asset will integrate with the company’s existing Llano Pipeline, creating a combined super-system capable of handling over 900,000 barrels of water per day.

The expansion responds to increasing pressure in legacy shallow disposal wells, a byproduct of industry shifts toward shallower injection depths to mitigate seismic risks. CEO Grant Adams stated that regulatory limits on disposal volumes and pressures necessitate long-haul transportation solutions. By diversifying disposal routes, the company aims to alleviate strain on local infrastructure while maintaining compliance with environmental standards.

Super System Adds Significant Capacity

The Estacado Pipeline contributes 550,000 barrels per day of additional capacity to the Goodnight network. When combined with the Llano Pipeline, which has operated since 2019, the integrated system provides more than 900,000 barrels per day of takeaway capacity for northern basin operators. This scale is critical for managing the water outputs generated by high-intensity drilling activities in the region, ensuring that producers have reliable out-of-basin disposal options.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, the project is a direct response to the physical constraints of the local subsurface environment. Adams explained that while the industry has successfully addressed seismicity through cooperation with regulators, the shift to shallow disposal has created new pressure challenges. The Estacado Pipeline serves as a logistical solution to these constraints, moving water away from sensitive areas via long-haul transport rather than relying solely on local injection.

Strategic Focus On Beneficial Reuse

Beyond disposal, Goodnight Midstream is positioning the Estacado Pipeline to support enhanced oil recovery projects on the Central Basin Platform. Adams described the use of produced water in these projects as beneficial reuse, a strategy the company actively supports. He noted that partnerships with private firms are currently in the pilot phase, with commercial scaling expected in the coming months. The company emphasizes that reuse must be developed to handle the massive volumes characteristic of the Permian Basin.

While beneficial reuse, including applications in agriculture and data center cooling, represents a growing market, disposal remains the primary requirement for the foreseeable future. Adams stated that the sheer scale of water production in the region means that all available management methods will be necessary. The company’s strategy involves supporting reuse in whatever form it takes to maximize the utility of the water stream while ensuring core disposal obligations are met.

Disciplined Growth Across Multiple Basins

Goodnight Midstream has set performance milestones targeting a 25% quarterly growth rate across its operations in the Delaware, Midland, Eagle Ford, and Bakken basins. The company’s approach focuses on disciplined capital allocation and opportunistic execution of its growth plan. Adams emphasized that the firm’s goal is to grow alongside its customers wherever they deploy long-term capital, maintaining a patient and strategic posture in a competitive infrastructure market.

The launch of the Estacado Pipeline underscores Goodnight’s commitment to serving the evolving needs of Delaware Basin producers. By integrating new capacity with existing assets and exploring reuse opportunities, the company is addressing both immediate logistical challenges and long-term sustainability goals. This strategic expansion aims to secure its position as a key infrastructure provider in one of the world’s most active oil-producing regions.
