Heirs Energies Restores Gas Flow to Aba Power Plant

Heirs Energies has concluded turnaround maintenance at its Agbada gas gathering facility, ending a supply disruption that affected the 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant in Aba, Nigeria.
Heirs Energies has completed critical turnaround maintenance (TAM) at its associated gas gathering (AGG) facilities in Agbada, Rivers State. This operational resolution directly restores the natural gas supply required by the 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant in Aba, Abia State, which had experienced output reductions due to the maintenance shutdown.
The resumption of gas flow allows Aba Power to clear localized faults and restore reliable electricity to nine local government areas within the Aba Ring-fenced zone. Nonso Okolo, Managing Director of Geometric Power Ltd, confirmed that the previous supply gaps had adversely affected socioeconomic activity in the region, a situation now reversed with the facility's return to full operational capacity.
Supply Interruption Drives Maintenance Costs
The maintenance cycle was necessitated by aging infrastructure in Nigeria's Eastern gas network, where pipelines constructed five to six decades ago have faced intermittent failures. To resolve a critical bottleneck, Heirs Energies imported a pressure-pumping component from the United States that is no longer in production. The company covered the significant cost of acquiring this obsolete part, declining assistance from Geometric Power to ensure the repair was completed without external delays.
Legacy Infrastructure Limits Regional Output
Chike Madueke, chairman of Nigergas Company, attributes the recent instability to a lack of investment in the region's gas assets over the past seven years. This stagnation coincided with a legal dispute involving Shell Petroleum Development Company, whose license renewal was contested by the federal government. The resulting uncertainty prevented necessary capital expenditure on the gas gathering facilities, contributing to the supply constraints now resolved by Heirs Energies' intervention.
Indigenous Capability Addresses Sector Gaps
Industry consultants note that Heirs Energies' investment in world-class technology and pipeline rehabilitation demonstrates the capacity of indigenous firms to manage complex infrastructure. Dike Ejike, a power consultant, highlights that the company's acquisition of specialized components and execution of the TAM process addresses the specific technological gaps left by previous operators, stabilizing the gas supply chain for downstream power generation in the Southeast.
