AXA Sets 7-9% Earnings Growth Target for 2029

The French insurer projects mid-teens book value growth and aims for a 15-17% return on equity through 2029.
AXA has defined its financial roadmap for the 2027 to 2029 period, targeting a compound annual growth rate in underlying earnings per share between 7% and 9%. This projection is anchored in the company's multi-line business model and aims to convert balance sheet strength into organic market share gains. According to reporting from GN markets/earnings (en-US), the strategy relies on leveraging existing margins to drive sustained performance.
The insurer expects to achieve an underlying return on equity ranging from 15% to 17% over the three-year plan. Concurrently, AXA anticipates a mid-teens compound annual growth rate in book value per share, inclusive of cumulative dividends, measured from 2026 estimates to 2029. The company plans to scale its use of artificial intelligence to strengthen its competitive position while maintaining capital discipline.
Capital Management and Cash Flow Projections
Financial projections indicate that organic cash upstream will reach approximately 28.9 billion dollars, equivalent to 25 billion euros, cumulatively over the 2027 to 2029 timeframe. This cash generation supports a total payout ratio target of 75% under the group's capital management policy. The strategy balances shareholder returns with the capital requirements necessary to support the targeted earnings growth trajectory.
Near-Term 2026 Performance Expectations
For the current year, AXA expects underlying earnings per share growth to reach the upper limit of its 6% to 8% target range. Similarly, the underlying return on equity for 2026 is anticipated to hit the top of the 14% to 16% target band. These near-term metrics serve as the baseline for the subsequent growth calculations leading into the 2029 horizon.
Strategic Leverage of Operational Metrics
The company’s approach ties financial targets directly to operational efficiency and margin expansion. By utilizing its diversified insurance lines, AXA aims to stabilize earnings volatility while pursuing market share gains. The integration of artificial intelligence tools is positioned as a key driver for improving cost structures and enhancing service delivery, thereby supporting the projected return on equity figures.
