IMI secured a multi-million dollar order for turbine bypass systems and control valves for the 1.5GW Franklin Farms station.

Key points

  • IMI won a contract worth over $3 million to supply valve technologies for the 1.5GW Franklin Farms Power Station.
  • The plant in Louisiana is designed to support AI data centers using two combined-cycle units for high-efficiency power.
  • IMI is providing a turbine bypass system, attemperators, and a control valve to ensure plant responsiveness and safety.

IMI has secured a contract valued at over three million dollars to supply critical valve technologies for the Franklin Farms Power Station in Louisiana. The 1.5-gigawatt facility is being developed to provide dedicated power for artificial intelligence data centers across the United States. This order adds to IMI’s portfolio of high-efficiency combined-cycle projects aimed at meeting the surging electrical loads required by digital infrastructure.

The project, located at the Franklin Farms Megasite, is being executed by EPC contractor Kiewit Corp. It features two combined-cycle units designed for operational flexibility and rapid response. IMI’s role involves providing a turbine bypass system, attemperators, and a control valve, components that are essential for maintaining plant safety and ensuring consistent power delivery under variable load conditions.

IMI Delivers Core Valve Systems

The specific equipment ordered includes a turbine bypass system, attemperators, and a primary control valve. These components are critical for managing steam flow and temperature within the plant. Their function ensures that the power station can respond quickly to changes in demand while maintaining high efficiency and operational safety standards.

Supporting AI Data Center Energy Needs

According to Engineer Live, the Franklin Farms project is explicitly designed to support the energy demands of AI operations. Natural gas combined-cycle technology is selected for its ability to provide fast response and stability, which is necessary for high, continuous electrical loads. This approach offers lower emissions compared to coal-fired generation while meeting the reliability requirements of data center infrastructure.

IMI’s involvement builds on its existing experience with combined-cycle power projects in North America. The company works with EPC contractors to standardize designs and streamline documentation, which helps accelerate delivery timelines. Priyavrath Kathavi, VP of Sales for Process Automation, noted that these projects require precision and technical confidence from the outset to support capacity expansion driven by digital infrastructure.

Engineering Phase and Delivery Schedule

IMI is currently engaged in detailed engineering activities for the project. Deliveries are scheduled to align with the plant’s overall construction program. This coordination ensures that the valve technologies are integrated seamlessly into the build-out, supporting the timely commissioning of the two combined-cycle units.
