Rep. Donalds Swaps Industrial Stocks for Netflix Position

Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds disclosed a portfolio rotation, exiting Howmet Aerospace and Parker Hannifin to increase his stake in Netflix.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) executed a series of transactions in August, selling positions in Howmet Aerospace and Parker Hannifin while adding to his holdings in Netflix. The disclosures, reported by Benzinga, show a strategic shift away from industrial sector exposure toward a media technology firm that has recently underperformed broader market benchmarks. Each trade involved a value range of $1,000 to $15,000, indicating modest individual transaction sizes within a larger portfolio.
The move comes as Donalds prepares to leave Congress in January 2027 to run for Florida governor. His trading history, which includes over 380 transactions since 2021, reflects active portfolio management. By reducing exposure to aerospace and industrial components while taking a position in a lagging tech stock, the congressman appears to be rebalancing his holdings ahead of his political transition.
Industrial Sector Positions Reduced
On August 11, Donalds sold shares of Howmet Aerospace and Parker Hannifin. Both companies operate in the industrial and aerospace sectors, with Howmet focusing on aerospace and defense components and Parker Hannifin providing motion and control technologies. Despite the sales, both stocks have shown positive year-to-date performance, with Howmet up 6.6% and Parker Hannifin up 5.3%. Donalds has had a long-term relationship with these tickers, having bought Howmet stock in 2022 and previously sold Parker Hannifin shares dating back to 2021.
Netflix Stake Increased Amid Underperformance
The following day, on August 12, Donalds purchased additional Netflix shares. This action contrasts with the stock’s recent trajectory, as Netflix is down 17.2% in 2026, underperforming the general market. The congressman is not new to the position, having bought $2,000 to $30,000 worth of Netflix stock in March. The recent purchases suggest a continued commitment to the media giant despite its short-term price weakness, possibly viewing the decline as an entry opportunity.
Trading Activity Volume Context
According to data from Quiver Quantitative, Donalds has engaged in significant trading activity since 2021, totaling $11.1 million in stock transactions. His most active year was 2023, with $6.6 million in moves. So far in 2026, his trading volume has exceeded $300,000, with sales slightly outweighing purchases in dollar terms. This level of activity is notable for a member of Congress and often draws scrutiny from retail investors monitoring legislative trades for potential signals.
