ON Semiconductor Shares Lag Peers Despite Strong Q2 Results

ON Semiconductor shares have fallen 44% in three months despite beating earnings estimates, creating a significant valuation gap compared to peer companies like NXP and Analog Devices.
ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ:ON) shares have declined 43.84% over the past three months, dropping from $121.62 to $68.30. This sharp drawdown occurred despite the company reporting second-quarter fiscal 2026 revenue of $1.60 billion, a 9.18% year-over-year increase that exceeded market expectations. Non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.74 also surpassed the consensus estimate of $0.7153.
The selloff contrasts with the performance of analog chip peers, who have held ground or risen. NXP Semiconductors is up 5.02% year-to-date, while Analog Devices has gained 33.72%. ON’s decline is attributed to concerns over automotive exposure, China cyclicality, and profit-taking after the stock previously reached a 52-week high of $134.92.
Analyst Estimates Remain Bullish
Wall Street coverage for ON remains predominantly positive, with 13 Buy or Strong Buy ratings and no Sell recommendations. In the trailing 30 days, 25 analysts raised fiscal 2026 earnings estimates, compared to just two who cut them. The consensus price target stands at $106.88, implying 56% upside from current levels.
Susquehanna’s Christopher Rolland maintains a Street-high price target of $150, suggesting approximately 120% potential upside. His thesis relies on ON’s silicon carbide technology capturing share in 800-volt electric vehicle platforms and AI data center power infrastructure. The forward P/E ratio of 16 reflects expectations for full-year fiscal 2026 EPS to reach $3.20.
Data Center Growth Drives Margins
Management projects that AI data center revenue will more than double in 2026. CEO Hassane El-Khoury noted that growth in this segment spans from the facility wall to the server core. Silicon carbide revenue in data centers is guided to grow nearly 60% year-over-year, driven by increased content per rack in 800-volt DC architectures.
This expansion supports margin recovery. Non-GAAP gross margin expanded to 39.3% in the second quarter, with third-quarter guidance indicating a range of 40% to 42%. The shift toward high-value AI power components helps offset softness in traditional automotive and industrial segments, positioning ON for improved profitability despite the recent stock price correction.
Peer Valuation Context
Among comparable companies, ON offers the widest implied upside. Analog Devices trades at $362.65 against a $470.72 target, while NXP Semiconductors trades at $227.95 with a $311.10 target. Both peers have received bullish ratings, with Analog Devices commanding a premium valuation due to its stronger year-to-date performance. ON’s current discount to its consensus target highlights the market’s skepticism regarding its near-term execution despite strong long-term positioning in power semiconductors.
