Cobra Resources Achieves Radium Removal at Wudinna

Cobra Resources reports successful purification tests at its Wudinna project, removing over 97% of radium while retaining high-value heavy rare earths.
Cobra Resources Plc (GB:COBR) has released positive test results from the Australian Nuclear Scientific Technology Organisation regarding its Wudinna Rare Earths Project in South Australia. The company’s proprietary radionuclide removal process successfully reduced radium levels by more than 97% and actinium by up to 90%. Crucially, the process retained over 90% of the high-value magnet and heavy rare earth elements, addressing a key technical hurdle in producing a cleaner, higher-grade mixed rare earth carbonate product.
These early findings indicate that Cobra can now produce a refined material with fewer radioactive contaminants and a greater proportion of premium heavy rare earths. The data will be integrated into the engineering design and Scoping Study, while further bench-scale In Situ Recovery (ISR) trials aim to refine operating conditions and recovery assumptions. As a pre-revenue development company with a market capitalization of £49.4 million, Cobra relies on these technical milestones to underpin its economic case as a mid-stream rare earths supplier.
Purification Metrics Define Product Value
The technical breakthrough specifically targets the reduction of lower-value lanthanum content while preserving the economically critical heavy rare earth elements. By achieving such high removal rates for radium and actinium, Cobra addresses the primary cost and regulatory barriers associated with radioactive byproducts in rare earth processing. This allows the company to focus on the intrinsic value of the retained elements, which are essential for magnet production and high-tech applications.
Engineering Integration and Future Trials
Cobra is now moving these laboratory results into the engineering phase of its development program. The company plans to incorporate the purification data into its Scoping Study to better model the potential economics of the Wudinna project. Additional bench-scale ISR trials are scheduled to optimize operating conditions and validate recovery assumptions. This step is critical for establishing the low-cost processing model that distinguishes Cobra’s ISR technique from conventional mining methods in the region.
Financial Position Remains Pre-Revenue
Despite the technical progress, Cobra Resources remains a pre-revenue entity with recurring operating losses and sustained negative free cash flow. The company continues to require external financing to fund its development activities. According to market data, the stock has an average trading volume of 1,602,704 shares. While the purification breakthrough strengthens the technical narrative, the financial profile remains dependent on successful commercialization of the Wudinna project and the ability to attract further capital for the next phases of testing and infrastructure development.
