Hancock Prospecting Acquires 13.5% Stake in White Cliff Minerals

Hancock Prospecting invests A$8.7 million in White Cliff Minerals, securing a 13.5% stake to fund exploration at the Rae copper project in Nunavut.
Hancock Prospecting has committed A$8.7 million to acquire a 13.5% equity stake in White Cliff Minerals, a junior explorer focused on the Rae copper project in western Nunavut. The transaction, valued at approximately US$6.2 million, involves the purchase of nearly 516 million shares at a price of A$0.017 per unit. White Cliff Managing Director Troy Whittaker described the investment as a critical validation of the project’s district-scale potential, noting that the capital will directly support the expansion of drilling activities and the advancement toward an initial mineral resource estimate at the Danvers target.
White Cliff shares responded positively to the announcement, rising nearly 12% to trade at A$0.01 in Sydney, which places the company’s market capitalization at A$53.3 million. This investment aligns with broader market trends where strategic capital is flowing into critical metal producers as copper prices remain near historic highs. The deal follows similar strategic moves by Hancock Prospecting in the rare earth and copper sectors, including investments in Arafura Rare Earths, Brazilian Rare Earths, and Titan Minerals’ Linderos project in Ecuador.
Drilling Results Validate High-Grade Potential
The Rae project, located approximately 75 kilometers west of Kugluktuk in the Kitikmeot region, has returned robust assay results from recent drilling campaigns. In June, hole DAN26012 intersected 7.6 meters of copper at a grade of 11.38% from a depth of 152.4 meters. Additionally, hole DAN25005 reported 13.7 meters at 7.70% copper starting from about 61 meters depth in May 2025. These high-grade intercepts underscore the mineralized system’s potential, supporting the company’s strategy to demonstrate district-scale copper resources in a historically significant area.
Strategic Infrastructure and Market Context
The project’s location benefits from proposed infrastructure developments, including the federally backed Grays Bay Road and Port Project, which aims to connect the Arctic Ocean with an all-season road into the Northwest Territories. This connectivity is a key factor in the long-term economic viability of remote arctic mining operations. The investment also reflects the current commodity environment, where copper traded at approximately US$6.35 per pound on Tuesday, following record highs above US$6.70 last week driven by tightening supply and growing demand from electrification and data centers.
Capital Allocation for Exploration Expansion
Proceeds from the equity placement will be utilized to accelerate drilling programs at the Danvers target, the primary focus of the Rae project. The company intends to use the funds to bridge the gap between current exploration and the establishment of an initial resource estimate. This capital injection provides White Cliff with the financial stability to continue its exploration agenda without immediate dilution pressure, while leveraging Hancock Prospecting’s reputation as a major player in the global mining sector. The move signals confidence in the project’s geological merits and its strategic importance in the supply chain for critical metals.
