Hycroft Evaluates Roasting and Underground Options

Hycroft Mining completes roasting tests and advances underground plans for Brimstone and Vortex, targeting production pathways in 2026.
Key points
- Hycroft Mining is completing a trade-off analysis between roasting and pressure oxidation for processing high-grade sulfide resources.
- The company is evaluating underground development options for the Brimstone and Vortex systems with support from RESPEC and Hatch.
- Hycroft plans to deploy two additional core rigs in the fourth quarter to accelerate drilling and test new targets.
Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation (Nasdaq: HYMC) is advancing technical initiatives to move its Nevada gold and silver asset toward production, with a focus on defining the most economically viable processing and mining methods. The company has completed metallurgical testing for roasting and is concurrently evaluating underground development options for the high-grade Brimstone and Vortex systems.
According to the update reported by Investing News Network, Hycroft is assessing multiple pathways to unlock shareholder value during the second half of 2026. This strategy is supported by a strengthened board and management team with extensive operational experience, alongside a refreshed brand identity designed to reflect the company's transition from exploration to development.
Processing Options Under Review
The company has finalized its roasting metallurgical test program and is now conducting a trade-off analysis against pressure oxidation. While both are conventional methods, roasting offers a potential secondary revenue stream through the production of sulfuric acid, which is a critical input for lithium, copper, and fertilizer sectors. This additional value proposition is being weighed against the operational costs and complexities of each method.
In parallel, Hycroft is evaluating the potential restart of heap leach operations. A reverse circulation drill program initiated in late 2025 has been used to further define the quantity and location of suitable ore for this method. The company is assessing whether this surface-based approach can be integrated with other processing strategies to optimize overall project economics.
Underground Development Planning
Hycroft is finalizing internal assessments for underground development of the Brimstone and Vortex systems. The company has engaged RESPEC Company LLC to evaluate mining alternatives and develop a conceptual mine plan. RESPEC is also assessing potential locations for an exploration decline that could provide underground drill access to expand these high-grade systems, with potential integration into a future mining operation.
Hatch Ltd. has been contracted to evaluate processing alternatives specifically for recovering silver and gold from a potential underground operation. A metallurgical test program at Hazen Research Inc. is underway to characterize the response of the high-grade material. These technical studies are being conducted alongside ongoing engineering, environmental, and permitting work required to advance the project.
Drilling and Corporate Updates
The company expects to have two additional core rigs available in the fourth quarter. These rigs will accelerate drilling activities at Vortex and Brimstone and allow for the testing of other prospective targets across the site. This expanded drilling capacity is intended to refine resource estimates and support the decision-making process for the optimal path to production.
Hycroft has also unveiled a refreshed brand identity, redesigned website, and updated corporate presentation. These changes are intended to reflect the company’s evolution and provide stakeholders with enhanced access to information regarding its strategy, technical programs, and exploration results. The updated materials serve as a platform to communicate progress across the asset.
