Eos Energy Enterprises secures a deployment of its zinc-based storage system for Google's new Mammoth Solar project, marking the first commercial use of the technology under a broader supply agreement.

Eos Energy Enterprises (EOSE) has secured a significant commercial deployment of its Z3 zinc-based long-duration energy storage system through the Mammoth Solar project in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The initiative involves a total capital investment of up to $350 million, where Google will purchase energy, capacity, and clean energy attributes to power its regional data centers. This marks the first time Google has utilized Eos’ Z3 technology, integrating it alongside utility-scale solar and lithium-ion batteries within a single facility.

The project combines 86 MW of solar generation with two distinct layers of storage: 70 MW / 280 MWh of lithium-ion for short-duration needs and 10 MW / 100 MWh of Eos’ zinc-based system designed for discharges exceeding 10 hours. This deployment is the first under a 750 MWh master supply agreement signed with MN8 Energy in October 2025. The contract covers multiple future deployments across the PJM grid and other U.S. markets, establishing the West Virginia site as the initial node in a broader pipeline rather than an isolated transaction.

Financial Context and Market Position

Despite the strategic win, Eos Energy operates in a capital-intensive sector with persistent financial challenges. The company’s revenue grew from $5 million in 2021 to $114 million in 2025, but net losses expanded sharply from $124 million to $970 million over the same period. This trajectory necessitated significant debt issuance and shareholder dilution to sustain operations. EOSE stock currently trades near $4 with a market capitalization of approximately $1.5 billion, reflecting a decline of more than 80% from late 2025 levels prior to the announcement of this deal.

Strategic Implications for Storage Vendors

For Eos, the Google engagement serves as a critical validation of its technology at commercial scale. Securing a hyperscaler as a customer provides a reference point that may facilitate negotiations with other major data center operators. The demand for reliable, long-duration storage to support AI infrastructure remains high, and the successful execution of the Mammoth Solar project could underpin future contracts. However, the company must balance this growth against the ongoing pressure of high operating costs and the need for sustained profitability to reduce reliance on external financing.
