Camtek Leverages Advanced Packaging Dominance for Growth

Camtek reported record Q2 revenue of $133 million, driven by an 80% surge in advanced packaging orders from memory chipmakers transitioning to HBM4 technology.
Camtek (NASDAQ: CAMT) reported second-quarter revenue of $133 million, an 8% increase year-over-year and a new company record. The growth was primarily fueled by a sharp rise in demand for advanced packaging inspection systems, which accounted for 80% of the company's total orders during the period. This surge reflects the broader semiconductor industry's pivot toward high-bandwidth memory and complex chip architectures, where quality control is critical to functionality.
The company holds an estimated 60% market share in the niche of advanced packaging inspection and metrology. As memory manufacturers shift to HBM4 chips and expand foundry capacity to address supply constraints, the need for precision measurement equipment has intensified. Camtek’s systems ensure that multi-chip packages function correctly, a requirement that becomes more stringent as AI workloads demand higher computational density and reliability.
Advanced Packaging Drives Order Surge
Memory chip manufacturers were the primary drivers of Camtek’s recent order intake. Their transition to HBM4 technology and efforts to scale production amid a memory shortage have necessitated significant upgrades to fabrication facilities. These new and upgraded plants require extensive inspection infrastructure to verify the integrity of advanced packages, directly benefiting Camtek’s core business lines.
CEO Rafi Amit stated on the earnings call that the company’s leading position in this specific market segment is expected to sustain momentum. The shift toward more complex packaging structures creates a higher barrier to entry for competitors, allowing Camtek to maintain its dominance. This structural change in the supply chain positions the company to capture a larger share of the total addressable market as AI hardware complexity increases.
Second Half Revenue Projection
Camtek projects third-quarter revenue to rise approximately 20% sequentially to around $159 million. For the full second half of the year, the company expects overall revenue growth of 25% compared to the first half. This acceleration is attributed to the continued strength in the advanced packaging business, which is expected to grow by approximately 45% in the second half relative to the first half.
These figures indicate a significant ramp-up in demand for inspection and metrology solutions. The company’s guidance suggests that the current cycle of capacity expansion and technology transition will drive sustained revenue increases. By focusing on the quality-control function of AI chips, Camtek is leveraging a critical bottleneck in the semiconductor supply chain to fuel its financial performance.
Strategic Position in AI Supply Chain
While major names like Nvidia and TSMC dominate headlines, secondary suppliers like Camtek are integral to the AI infrastructure buildout. The reliability of AI systems depends on the flawless performance of every component within a package. Camtek’s role in verifying this performance makes it a key beneficiary of the ongoing expansion in AI computing power, providing a clear path for earnings growth as the industry scales.
