Oracle Posts 30% Revenue Jump on AI Cloud Demand

Oracle's Q1 FY27 results show record revenue and massive capital expenditure, driven by a surge in AI infrastructure demand and high GPU utilization.
Oracle reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $19.3 billion, a 30% year-over-year increase, driven by record growth in its cloud infrastructure segment. The company achieved non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.92, up 30% from the prior year, as operating leverage offset the costs associated with rapid data center expansion. According to data from GN markets/earnings (en-US), this performance reflects a strategic pivot toward high-demand compute services.
Cloud infrastructure revenue surged 121% to $7.4 billion, fueled by the successful deployment of new megawatt capacity. Remaining performance obligations stood at $664 billion, an increase of $209 billion year-over-year, indicating strong forward-looking demand for AI training workloads. Oracle also recorded a record $23 billion in operating cash flow, supported by customer prepayments that helped fund its aggressive capital spending plans.
Capital Expenditure Funds Infrastructure Ramp
The company invested $28 billion in capital expenditures during the quarter, focusing on expanding data center capacity to meet rising compute demands. Net cash capital expenditures were $18 billion after accounting for customer prepayments. Management noted that gross margins declined due to the ramp-up costs of new data centers, but this was balanced by simplified business operations and lower operating costs, keeping the non-GAAP operating margin stable at 42%.
Oracle issued $20 billion in equity through an at-the-market program to finance these infrastructure investments. The company reported delivering 300,000 GPUs to AI cloud customers since the end of the previous fiscal year. With GPU utilization reaching 97.9%, Oracle achieved a 20% price premium on renewed AI capacity, demonstrating strong pricing power in its multi-tenant fleet.
Application Suite Growth Remains Steady
Cloud applications revenue grew 10% to $4.2 billion, reflecting consistent demand for Fusion and industry-specific software. Multi-cloud database revenue expanded by 353% as Oracle broadened its regional footprint on Azure and AWS. Fusion application growth reached 14%, driven by enterprise adoption of automated AI agents, while industry applications grew over 20% in healthcare and energy sectors.
Embedded AI usage increased 42% sequentially to 150 million instances, with customers consuming 900 billion tokens across Fusion applications. These metrics suggest that Oracle’s existing customer base is increasingly integrating AI features into their daily workflows, providing a stable revenue stream that complements the high-growth infrastructure business.
Guidance Raised Following Strong Quarter
Management raised fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to at least $90 billion, representing a 34% increase, based on the acceleration seen in the first quarter. Non-GAAP EPS guidance was upgraded to $8.10. The company also reported $30 billion in new AI contract bookings that do not require incremental capital from Oracle, strengthening its future revenue pipeline without additional financial strain.
Despite the positive outlook, management highlighted risks associated with large-scale infrastructure development, including regulatory hurdles and energy grid coordination. However, the completion of 618 megawatts of capacity at the Abilene campus, covering 75% of total delivered capacity, indicates that execution risks are being managed effectively to support continued growth.
