Apple has published a new support document detailing the specific boundaries for its upcoming Apple Intelligence features. The company confirms that several high-demand AI tools will operate under strict usage limits because they rely on expensive server-side processing. This move signals a clear shift toward a metered model for AI services, where free access is capped and expanded usage requires a financial commitment.

The new terms, reported by 9to5Mac, indicate that features like Siri AI, advanced photo editing, and image generation will not be available indefinitely to all users. Once a user hits their allocated limit, these functions will become temporarily unavailable until access is restored. This creates a tangible trade-off: while basic usage remains free, power users and professionals who rely on these tools for daily work will likely need to upgrade their service plans to maintain uninterrupted access.

Server-dependent features face strict caps

Apple lists several specific capabilities that will be subject to these restrictions. These include the new Siri AI, intelligent photo editing tools such as Clean Up and Spatial Reframing, and the Image Playground. Additionally, developers using Apple Foundation Models through Private Cloud Compute will also encounter these barriers. For users integrating Apple Intelligence with home security cameras, the availability of video summaries is directly linked to their iCloud+ storage tier. The base 2TB plan supports only one camera, while the 6TB plan covers two, and the top-tier 12TB plan allows up to five. This structure ties AI functionality to data storage costs, effectively making the AI features a premium add-on for larger storage packages rather than a standalone service.

The new terms also include broad language regarding "unreasonable use." Apple reserves the right to restrict, throttle, or suspend access if it determines a user is engaging in excessive, automated, or abusive behavior.
