Google has rolled out new AI capabilities across its suite, adding voice controls and automated tasks to help users manage daily workloads. The update also includes a significant benefit for higher education.

As the summer season winds down, Google has introduced a series of updates to its AI subscription tiers. These changes aim to streamline daily tasks by integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into familiar applications. The primary goal is to reduce the manual effort required for common digital chores, from drafting emails to organizing visual content.

According to reporting from GN technics/ai (en-US), these features are designed to make the user experience more interactive. By leveraging advanced models, Google seeks to automate repetitive processes. However, access to these tools is tiered, meaning not all subscribers will have the same capabilities depending on their plan level.

Voice controls simplify daily tasks

One of the most practical additions is the expansion of voice commands across Gmail, Docs, and Keep. Users can now dictate drafts or search their inboxes using spoken words rather than typing. This feature is particularly useful for capturing quick thoughts on mobile devices. It is available to subscribers of the AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans, with Docs support restricted to the higher tiers.

Automating design and spreadsheet work

For visual and data-heavy tasks, Google has integrated new tools into Workspace. The new Google Pics feature allows users to generate posters and social media graphics directly within their accounts. Additionally, Sheets canvas enables users to transform standard spreadsheets into interactive mini-apps using simple text prompts. These functions are exclusive to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, highlighting a clear trade-off between cost and functionality.

Free access for college students

In a move to support the education sector, Google is offering one year of its AI plans for free to eligible college students worldwide. This initiative lowers the financial barrier for students who need these tools for academic projects. It also serves as an introduction to the platform’s capabilities for the next generation of professionals. This perk stands out as a significant benefit compared to the paid subscriptions required for general consumers.
